Care & Maintenance

We know you’ll love your new purchase and will want to look after it, below are a few key points to help get the best out of your new furniture.

Suar Wood
Our Suar wood tables are delivered un-treated with a fine sanded finish to allow you to select your preferred finish.  We recommend regular treatment with an oil of your choice, previous customers have used Danish Oil and Tung Oil, among others.  It is important to regularly apply a treatment to the wood as this will help to prevent any splits or cracks developing in the wood. The interval between treatments will vary depending on the conditions in your home: sunlight, temperature variation, humidity, heating etc., as well as how often it is used.  We suggest applying several layers of an oil treatment within the first few days of receiving your items and then at least every three months thereafter.

Make sure to follow the product manufacturer’s instructions for application and always test a wood treatment on an inconspicuous area first to make sure you are happy with the finish. We do not recommend using varnish or lacquer products on Suar wood.

One of our customers shared this feedback of their experience of using Danish Oil to treat their Suar table and chairs set:

"We are really pleased with the table and chairs we purchased a few months ago, we chose to use Danish Oil for the finish. A friend of ours advised that to keep the wood at its best we needed to treat it every day for a week, every week for a month, every month for a year and every year thereafter!! Very labour intensive at the beginning, but the table looks superb!!"

Always clean up any spills quickly to avoid staining.  As all our suar products are made of solid wood, stubborn stains can be sanded out, to achieve a fine sanded finish use min 120 grit sandpaper.

Please be advised that, due to the nature of the wood, we do not advise placing any furniture items on carpet or susceptible flooring materials.  If you wish to do so, please place a protective layer underneath each leg to prevent staining.

Teak Root
Our Teak Root Furniture is delivered with a waxed finish and will not require further treatment.  We recommend regular dusting with a clean, damp cloth.  Beeswax polish or coconut oil can be applied if you prefer a more polished look to the wood.  Please be advised that, due to the nature of the wood, we do not advise placing any furniture items on carpet or susceptible flooring materials.  If you wish to do so, please place a protective layer underneath each leg to prevent staining.

You can wash down the wood, but always avoid alkaline soaps as these can be damaging to the surface.  Ensure you wipe off any residue after cleaning and dry the wood thoroughly.

Always use a coaster or matt to protect glass table tops from damage.  Always protect a glass table top from direct heat, never place anything very hot directly onto a glass top table.

Reclaimed Teak
Our Reclaimed Teak furniture is delivered un-treated with a rustic finish revealing the unique character and grain of the wood used in the manufacture.  These pieces do not require any wood treatment, but if you wish to protect against marks/stains we would suggest using a flat matt varnish to protect the wood with a minimal effect on the finish.  Always test a product on an inconspicuous area first to ensure you are happy with the finish and follow the product manufacturer's instructions.

Teak Root Chopping Boards, Bowls & Vases
We recommend regular treatment of all of our teak root accessories with oil to preserve the finish and ‘feed’ the wood.  We use coconut oil in our showroom, which sinks into the wood leaving a subtle sheen while bringing out the character of the grain.  For chopping boards, you can also use mineral oil which is specifically designed for use on chopping boards.  To clean down chopping boards, wipe with a damp cloth, do not immerse in water, and avoid alkaline soaps as these will damage the wood.
